Tower/defense games
Hedgehog launch. Launch. A. Hedgehog. Gain points. Buy stuff. Launch farther.
VectorTD – another flash tower desktop defense.
Onslaught — Another desktop defense game that includes combination weapons (groups of towers create extra, new weapons), and several different field layouts. The game has a small set of base weapons that can be powered up in 3 ways (speed, power, and distance), and has a set of power-up weapons that boost the power of units close by.
Eye defense — A very simple defense game for kids. You get an eye and a set of parts for each level, with the goal of building protection around the eye to keep it safe from enemies. The parts and levels change quite a bit, requiring creative solutions to the problems.
Classic arcade games
Line defender — A crisp space invaders game where you draw deflection lines to rebound the aliens’ attacks. This game is especially good practice for kids learning to use the mouse, track pad, or stylus, as it requires quick, accurate lines. The group that makes this game has several other similar games if you need more line-drawing fun.
Juggler — A simple game like Arkanoid where you use a paddle to juggle a set of balls. This is another great game for building mouse, track pad, and stylus skills. The game starts with 3 balls, and the level increases every 1000 points.
Simulators
Line Rider — A toboggan simulator. You draw a course and press play, and the physics simulation runs the toboggan (and rider) down the course. The game lets you save (and load) courses, so you can work on them overa period of days (or weeks). This is an unofficial Line Rider’s site, but it includes several amazing videos of incredible (almost unbelievable) courses, as well as a recent version of the game.
Toys
Sound paint — A simple sound painting tool. You turn on one of eight musical instruments, and paint the canvas with sound. The toy has a decent set of sound samples, and the result is a lot of fun for most kids.
