WordPress 2.5 upgrade

In case you’re curious, the upgrade to WordPress 2.5 is trivial:1

  1. Upgrade source:

svn sw http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/tags/2.5/

  1. Run upgrade DB script (just visit your site).

That’s it.

FWIW, the new admin panel is slick, a lot like the Tumblr dashboard. The navigation is sensibly split into regular tasks and lesser-used administration tasks, and the colours/shapes/widget placements are much easier on the eyes. Well done!

Recruiting (versus Microsoft)
The best recruiting department in the world can’t make people want to work at a company that’s moribund, that can’t figure out how to ship a compelling upgrade to their flagship OS, or update their flagship database server more than once every five years, that has added tens of thousands of technical workers who aren’t adding any dollars to the bottom line, and that constantly annoys twenty year veterans by playing Furniture Police games over what office furniture they are and aren’t allowed to have. Why I Hate Apple, Why I Switched Back
Why? Because, while the OS X software is great, Apple’s hardware is some of the worst I’ve used in the whole 18 years I’ve been using computers. I purchased an iBook that ground to a halt after months of Apple denying it was broken. (Other people have Power Books with AC adapters catching on fire.) On top of that, I ended up blowing an extra $1000 easily on repairs and upgrades just to keep up with Apple’s obnoxious secretive upgrade policies. (Another random weblog find)
